Ever since I was a little girl, I loved making collages. I remember the smell of the paste and searching through magazines to come up with pretty pictures.

Over the years, I have enjoyed scrapbooking, and sharing art with my own children through homeschooling, and with others through teaching catechism. But I really started revisiting my love of art by taking an altered book class in 2011. It was actually an art therapy class, and truly inspired me to take risks with my medium and find out what really nourished my soul.

I have since set up a small studio in my home, with a lovely view to the outdoors, and every conceivable supply. I continue taking art classes, as I love learning new techniques, and inventing (and reinventing) my own style. (Lately I have been playing with pop culture themes, as my family and I are avid fans of sci-fi and fantasy.)

The cards and other paper goods that I design take time and are infused with the joy of creating. It truly starts with blank paper, as I paint, ink, stamp, and emboss each design. I do not make copies of my art, as each card marked Original Art is truly that. I make many cards for friends and family that are not sold through the shop, but I document them on my shop blog, www.chalk-and-slate.com.
